Ellie hoped their conversation wouldn’t be overheard. “That could never happen,” she said with her voice in a whisper. “But if it did, TEAMMATE would find out and put you in jail.”
“That’s all expected, but my question is…what would they do with my baby?”
Ellie sighed and shrugged her shoulders. “I don’t know. Just take it? Why does this even matter?”
Judith gave her best friend a very serious look. “Ellie, you realize I need to find these things out for when I have my love child with Andy Jacobs.”
Ellie arched her brow. “The boy who doesn’t know you exist?”
“Oh, he knows I exist. He just chooses not to acknowledge it…yet.”
Ellie shook her head and nervously looked around again. “You shouldn’t joke about things like this, Judith.”
Judith giggled. “Oh, I’m totally not joking about having Andy Jacobs’s love child. I would absolutely have his baby tomorrow, if possible.” More giggles followed. “But…enough about my love life. What about you? Anything interesting happen over the summer?”
“No,” said Ellie. “I’m not actively seeking anything like what you’re insinuating.”
“Oh, come on, Ellie. Don’t you even want a boyfriend?”
Ellie thought for a moment. “I suppose someday. I’m just not boy-crazy right now. They all seem interested in other girls in our class anyway.”
