About the Author

Kayla E. Green is an award-winning author and poet who writes to remind others—and herself—that light always prevails over darkness. When she isn’t writing, reading, or spending time with her family, she loves singing loudly and off-key to KLove Radio and pretending she’s a unicorn. Fittingly, her YA debut fantasy novel is titled The Goodness of Unicorns.

Interview with the Author

Do you hear from your readers much? What kinds of things do they say?

I hear from readers occasionally through social media. Earlier this year, a reader shared that Metamorphosis was not only their top book of 2025 but one of their favorite reads ever. It means a lot when someone connects with the poems. It’s still a bit wild to hear that something I created has impacted someone so positively, but it is a wonderful reminder of why I write—to offer hope in the hurting and point back to God. To God be all the glory 🙌

Do you read the genre you write? Why or why not?

Yes, I read poetry, speculative fiction, and more; however, if I had to pick one genre of books, as both an author and a reader, I would choose fantasy as my favorite genre. Fantasy allows one to better understand reality by navigating high stakes while remaining safe. It gives us a way to process what it means to defeat dragons in our own world. C.S. Lewis has so many good points on the fantasy genre (as well as Christianity and human nature) including “Fairy land arouses a longing for he knows not what. It stirs and troubles him (to his life-long enrichment) with the dim sense of something beyond his reach.”

I do love reading poetry, too, because of the manner in which it expresses ideas and emotions. I highly recommend reading poetry by Melody Faith, Nathaniel Luscombe, David Lasley, and any poetry collections organized by Twenty Hills Publishing

How did you come up with the title for your book?

The poems in Metamorphosis help illustrate the transformative power of Christ’s redeeming love. The words of Romans 12:2 were close to my heart working on this collection, and Metamorphosis encompasses how God changes us for the better. The overarching theme of the book along with butterfly imagery found in a few of the poems easily led to the title Metamorphosis.

What is the most valuable piece of advice you’ve been given about writing?

I’ve received a lot of great advice in terms of writing. One of the most valuable pieces, I think, is you can’t edit a blank document. The first draft is telling yourself the story—once you have it told, then you can make it shine.

Do you participate in writing challenges on social media? Why or why not?

I love writing challenges, but I don’t participate in many because of my personal schedule. I do love jumping into some every now and then as well as social media posting challenges. The chill words posting challenge hosted by Feya Rose and Novels by Nicha is a lot of fun and is reader/writer focused. I love the community that social platforms like Instagram help foster!
