Excerpt from the Book
Mom patted Hugo on the shoulder. “Thanks for your help,” she said with a warm smile. When she glanced at Stefan, her facial features turned downward, and she wiped away a tear.
Everyone got their luggage with no more incidents, and they shuffled their way down the corridor toward the exit. A line had already formed.
As soon as the train stopped, everyone rushed forward. Someone pressed hard against Stefan from behind, who was about to say something when he remembered he couldn’t speak Polish. So instead of complaining, Stefan swung his suitcase back toward the culprit, who yelled a comment Stefan didn’t need to know the language to understand.
They got off the train and stood on the platform, unsure what to do next. People hurried around them in all directions, and the foursome followed the crowds down an escalator, finding themselves in what looked like a shopping mall. Stefan immediately noticed a McDonald’s in the distance.
“Let’s go this way.” Mom pointed toward a sign that read “To the Center.” She clutched a piece of paper with information about their accommodations.
Leaving behind the mall housing the train station, they made their way through Old Town, a popular tourist destination filled with shops, cafes, restaurants, museums, and churches.

About the Author
Carol’s passion is to write exciting stories that encourage, inspire, and boost the reader’s faith, possibly because she has always felt like an outsider. She was born in North Africa to American parents and grew up in France. At age 15, her family’s abrupt move to Philadelphia resulted in a rough transition to American life.
After graduating from Penn State, Carol joined the Army in search of adventure. She was stationed in exotic—for her—locations like California, Arizona, and Texas.
Since then, Carol has lived in Krakow, Poland, where she teaches English and organizes language camps. She also writes a blog on faith-related topics.
Carol enjoys watching or reading a good murder mystery and getting nervous while watching NFL games.
